Introduction
What is Oz?
Oz is a network for edge data collection. Designed to enable access to traditionally siloed data sets, Oz makes traditionally siloed data available for use by startups, open source developers, and AI agents.
At the core, Oz is a peer-to-peer data sharing protocol. The protocol controls the specific structures and types of data that can be shared via Sense Agents. Each Agent enable subscriptions to individual user's data feeds, allowing for complete control of what is shared and who can receive it.
To ensure subscribers receive only high-quality data, subscribers maintain the reputation of data providers, thus excluding low-quality data providers from the network.
Why Oz?
Today's largest organizations are data-driven. Their competitive advantage comes from their data and the network effects that keep it flowing. For analytics and AI organizations, more data leads to better products. These organizations have no incentive to share their data, or to share access to the devices that generate it.
Oz imagines a world where the data produced at the edge is freely available for open innovation by anyone.
How does it work?
Connect. Users integrate Oz into their existing smart devices and data sources. Any kind of data can be shared, from video camera traffic to application metadata. The easiest way to get started is to hook up to existing smart devices.
Approve. Choose who you want to grant access to your data feed. With Oz, you know what's being shared and who it's being shared with, and you can turn it off at any time.
Earn. When you grant a subscriber access to your data, they'll pay you directly. No middleman.
Oz is built on blockchain technology to ensure data transfers are censorship resistant and peer-to-peer. Oz never centralizes your data and can't interfere with data transfers.
An Example
Imagine you just moved in to a new apartment. Your appliances, thermostat, and doorbell are internet-connected smart devices. You install Oz Axis, which taps in to the data feeds from these devices.
The data is streamed directly to your local utility company, who uses it to monitor energy consumption and usage patterns in real-time, allowing them to better forecast demand and optimize their operations, lowering energy costs over time.
The energy company pays you for the same data they used to lower your energy bill, a win-win.
Oz opens a new market for traditionally monopolized data, reducing censorship and enabling analytics over datasets that are traditionally not available for public view.
